Cleopatra's Needle To Get Needed Wash
LONDON, March 1. Cleopatra's Needle is to be cleaned for the first time in the 60 years it has stood besi,de the Thames on Victoria Embankment. At present the obelisk is a deep sooty black but wh6n cleaning operations are comjileted it is ex;pected to be restored to its originai, faint pink colour. An attempt was made to wash down the Needle with fire hoses in 1932 but' this proved only moderately successful. On this occasion a special type of chemical detergent will be used.
