MAN KILLED, TWO OTHERS INJURED.
NEW PLYMOUTH, March 1. A man was killed instantly when a motor car and passenger bus collided at a corner about 14 miies from Tokaanu on the Tokaanu-Turangi highway, this afternoon. He was : — MR. CHARLES BARTLETT, of Ohingaiti. Mr. G. Slight, of Terangiita, and Mr. W. Anderson, of Foxton, with whom ■ Mr. Bartlett was travelling, suffered lacerations and severe shock. It is suspected that Mr. Anderson has a broken nose. So tightly jambed together were the two vehicles that Mr. Slight was securely wedged behind the steering wheei ot the motor car which was almost completely wreeked. He was freed oniy after a welding torch sent from Taumarunui, had been used to cut away part of the chassis of the bus. Owned by the H*awke7s Bay Motor Company, the bus was driven by Mr, C. Russell, of National Park, who was badly shaken. The ten passengers eseaped injury. The bus was travelling from Taupo to National Park and the motor car, owned and driven by Mr. Slight, was going in the opposite direction.
