HUNGARIAN ACCUSED ALLEGE POLICE INTIMIDATION
Received Wednesday, 9.55 a.m. ! BUDAPEST, March 1. Pive of the 14 defendants being tried in connection with the blackmarket charges against Cardinal Mmdszenty today withdrew the I confessions they made before the trial and declared that they had been "intimidated by the police." Another defendant, Zsigmond , Deutsch, referring to "broken j nerves," said that after he had been kept alone in a cell for a month he named five other defendants as his I business partners in currency trading. He admitted that he changed doilars, but had never had any business with these defendants. Each of the five defendants then withdrew their confessions and aileged that the police had intimi- , dated them. ' Defence counsel begin their pleas 'tomorrow and the verdicts are expected on March 5.
