4 PALMERSTON NTH., March 1. A youthful burg^ar operatmg in Fitzherbert Avenue, Palmerston j Norch last night, selected the house of the Superintendent of Police, Mr. H. J. Joyce, as his huntlng ground. He was unfortunate in that a neighbour saw him gaining en- J trance by a front window. The! alarm was raised and a strongJ force of police was soon on the spot. The intruder apparently took fright while the forces of the law were reconnoitring the posi'tion and, leaving a quantity of Mr. Joyce's son's clothes, which he had parcelle'd up, as well as some prandy and sherry which caught his eye, he took a flying leap through a window and landed in the property next door. A detective gave chase, but was held up by the' high wall which the burglar had" jumped from the window. Despite an immediate search, the miscreant made .good his escape.
