Annual Meeting Of Levin Junior Chamber

Entering on its third year of work in Levin, the Levin Junior Chambef of Commerce held its annual meeting in the Oddfellows' Hall on Tuesday night. The retiring president, Mr. N. Thornley, presided over an attendance of more than 30 members. The report brought forward by the chairman on tne past year's work indicated that much had been done by the J.C. in Levin to carry out its ideals of "Education, Fellowship, Service and Action." Many projects had been carried out/ others were still to be completed and some have just begun. Before relinquishing the chair as president, Mr. Thornley expressed his thanks to the chamber for electing him to office in 1948. "1 have enjoyed my term of office — the experience has given me greater confidence in myself and in my fellow men. "The year has taught me to be more tolerant. has broadened my outlojk and genera.lly given me a deeper educaaon than I could have got out of any hook. In t'his world of unstable conditions and changing values, let us all hold fast to our J.C. ideals and make at least one stabilising contribution, not only to the community but also in the wider sphere of national . and international affairs. "In conclusion," said Mr. Thornley, I wish to record my thanks and deep appreciation of the real ihelp accorded me throughout the year by the vice-president, Mr. J. Miller, the immediate past president, Mr. D. Sweetzer, the secretary, Mr. G. H. Sorenson, and1 all board and general members. Wi-h-out their unstinted co-operatirn the progress we have made would have been impossible." Tne accounts for the year showed that out of a total income of £126 7s 3d, a profit of £13 17s 9d had been made. The receipts and payments. account disclosed thai £422 15s 6d had been handled during the year. Biggest lump-sum 'pvas £156 2s 6d collected during the health stamp campaign.
