Activity Quickens For Final Week Of Carnival
— — . •• • The carnival ends this week;- With zero hour fixed as 9 p.m. on Monday next. A host of' activities will keep supporteris busy all sthe week, and there are whisperings in many camps of last-min'ute i'deas for topping the list. Advertised activities to'date are as under:— ' Wednesday, 8 p.m.: Civic Theatre, Farmers' Queen variety concert. Thursday: CitizenS' Queen party. Friday: Textr.es Queen final card evening and grand dance, with the Otaki Band playing ou't for the Citizens' Queen. Saturday: Sports Queen greyhound racing at Otaki Domain; Farmers' Queen grand ball at Manakau; Maori" Queen open air ,ga]a and tug-o-war contest at Raukawa.
Sunday: Sports Queen, concert. ■ Monday: Final result at- Civic Theatre at 9 p.m. Sideshows at the carnival site in Mill Road wil close down on Saturday night. The carnival executive, which met on Monday night to- discuss the final arrangements 'for bringIng the carnival to a satifefactory conclusion, expressed v extreme pleasure at the response to. the efforts of the many energetic workers on the various queen committees. ' '
It was agreed that the offer of Otaki Amusements, Ltd., for the use of the Civic Theatre for the final voting on Monday, February 28, was very satisfactory. Progress reports will' be made known on the screen between 8 and 9 p.m., with the final result being '.flashed shortly after 9 p.m. vArrangements for the coronation on March 9 are in the han'ds of Mr. and Mrs. L. Moss and Mr. R. | T. Mortiboy. The Ohakea 'Air Force Band concert party is to pro- 1 vide entertainment until 9.33 p.m., with the crowning of the 'successful queen to follow. It was reported to the meeting that, contrary to expectations, cash donations to the War Memorial Fund are disappointingly small, and efforts are to be made to improve this situation. Members present offered the op.inion that the firial week woul'd doubtl.ess. see1 ihicreased activity in .this direction. also. . ' .
