Ladies' Bowling And Croquet Notes

In the fourth round of the Sherwood Cup fixtures the local croquet club was defeated by Otaki by 52 points to 21. The fixture was played at Otaki. The following are the individual scores, Otaki players being mentioned first; — Mrs. Wilson (4) 26, defeated' Mrs. Bovis (3) j 10; Mesdames Silverwood (4) and Cobb (5), defeated Mesdames Mor-i rison (8) and Bell (9) 26 — 11. The local players reported a very enjoyable day, excellent weather and generous hospitality. The final round in the competition will be played in March, when the local ladies meet the Manakau Club a? Manakau. Competition play for the Roacn and Blaikie Brooches has commenced on the local greens. The play is on the Yankee tournament system with a sealed handicap, which proved so Satisfactory last season, and some interesting games are anticipated. .The opportunity was taken at the weekly club day on Tuesday of the Croquet and Women's Bowling Ulub to offer congratulations to Mesdames Tricker and Laing on their success in the bowling tournament at Wellington recently,1 when they reached the post-section play, to Mesdames Edmonds, Laing, Aitchison and Tricker on their excellent play in the rinks games at the women's' bowling tournament in Palmerston North last week, and to Mrs. M. Parr, who succeeded in winning the '.C grade championship cup at , the, croquet tournament in Palmerston North last week. Mesdames Fitzgerald. and Bovis, presidents of . the bowling and croquet clubs respectively, expressed the members' congratulations to the players on their successes and congratulated them on their initiative in entering for tournament play, thus not only bringing honour to their clubs, but also assisting their fellow members by passing on what they had learned during the tournaments. Competition games are belng entered into with enthusiasm by ,the bowling members and there was an excellent attendance of members on Tuesday. Men's Bowling Notes Dr. Aitchison, F. O. Burtt, J. T.

Bovis and V. J. Bateman (s) entered the Levin R.S.A. bowling tournament recently and succeeded in i winning all four games, when play was stopped owing to heavy rain. 'It was decided to hold the trophies ,over for next year's tournament rather than to attempt to play off ithe finals in the rain, i Last Friday, V. J. Bateman i represented the Shannon Club in a friendly match between the Mana-; watu Bowling Centre and the visiting Australian bowlers. He reported an excellent day's play.
