Young And Old Enjoy School Picnic
Young and old alike were up bright and early on Saturday morning, the day selected for the Shannon School's annual picnic. The morning was fine but a breeze, was blowing. This, however, did> not prevent a large gathering journeying to Foxton Beach, which was "again the location of the * picnic. The regular schooi buses r&n throughout the outlying districts to convey pupils and parents into town, from where a fleet of buses took them to the beach, the first buses leaving at about 9 a.m. The committee handling arrangements had everything attended to and all tran'sport problems were overcome before they started. Once at the beach everything was done to give the chidren a happy time. Ice creams and sweets were popular with the children and a sports meeting helped"add to the entertainnient of both yongsters and parents. However, the sea and the building of sand castles held the greatest attraction for the kiddies.
When, at 3.30 p.m., it was time to go^ home it was a convoy of reluctarit but tired„ children that left the beach. Parents expressed approval of the excellent manner in - which the committee had arrangements controlled. .
