Splendid Response To Drive For Corso

A splendid response was receive'd on Saturday in the drive imdertaken on behalf of Corso for clothes, boots, paper and fats. It was carried out by an energetic ;body of helpers consisting of owners of motor vehicles, boy scouts and members of the Corso commit!tee. The .pollectioh , commenced at. 9 a.m. and the various vehicle ownf ers, withTwo scouts to each, to the ' streets allocated to them, returning later to.,headquar.ters establish- ' e*d in the R.S.A. rooms laden with i pareels containing all . kinds of clothes, . a large assortment of boots, shoes and skippers, a huge array of papers, magazines, etc., and dozens of large1 and smjfcll tins of fat. At the -R.SA, rooms awaiting the arrival of the vehicles the Corso committee, under the supervision of the MayoreSs, Mrs. H. B. Burdekin, quickly classified the various goods and ipacked them into boxes ready for 'dispatch to headquarters in Wellington. The Mayoress today expressed her thanks for the spendid co-? operation received from all helpers,, who sacrificed their Saturday morning to make the drive such a success, and especially the pub.:c for their various. gifts. Mrs. Burdekin ad'ded that any citizen who had goods ready and was inadvertently missed by the collectors may leave their contributions at the R.S.A. rooms on Friday betxyeen the hours of 2 and 5-pjn.^_: % ■ The following members of the Corso committee were on dmy: Mesdames H. B. Burdekin, G. LeS'ter, McLeod, Kirkaidie," M. Fulton, | A. V.- Morgan, P. Moxham, F, Lem•mon, H. S. Kings and T. C. de Mey, and Miss Selby. The collectors who drove and suppiied -vehicles wer'e: — Mesdames "H. B., Burdekin, Kircaldie and H. iHarvey, and MeSsrs. J. Eccles (with Mr. J. Marshall as driver), A. Bonjner (with Mr. S. Bonner as driver), A. Mudgway, B. Antcliff, A. S. Denholm, R. Lester and C. Sherwood. I The Levin boy scouts who assist- ' ed comprised Assistant Scoutmasrer Trevor Hudson and Scouts Stanley Small, Ian Wenbam, Jim Greenaway, Lance Osborn, David Boyd, Peter Travers-, Brian Frederickson, Dudley Greenaway, Ross Tillson, Ross Cowan, Norman Broadbent, Eric Harrison. Leslie Judd, George ■ Broadbent, Ray Harvey, Warren Travers, and two school boys, John Harvey and Neil Rolston. Thanks are also extended to the Mayor, Mr. H. B. Burdekin, for gifts 'of -ice-cream to-the scouts and 'lMr. G. Lester for the cordial drinks. The * ladies' committee suppiied morning tea to the other workers.,
