Ladies Bowling Club The weather was fine for o the usual ladies' day at the local bowling green. last Tuesday afternoori and there , was a good attendance of members: preSfent. Se'yeral- games in the club's championship singles ( competiti'on were played •" anU the - following are the results:— ^Mrs. Aitchison defeated Mrs. Tricker, Mrs. Stern defeated Mrs. Hunter, Mrs/ Peni defeated Mrs. , Laing, : Mrs. Fitzgerald defeated Mrs. Bar-," ber. . • Land For Settlement The secretary of the Shannon hranch of the Returned Services' Association, Mr. E. J. Gunning, has received a lengthy circular in connection with land for settlement for ex-servicemen in the Wellington land district. Any interested serviceman is invited to call on Mr. Gunning who will be pleased to pass on any information required" on the matter. Mr. Gunning also reminds members that the Fensions' Board will be sittirig in Palmerston North -early next month and information on this subject is also available from liim. Special Library Books ' Spea.king at a meeting of the Shannon, Borough Council on Tuesday evening, the Mayor. ..(Mr. D. A. Fitzgerald) state-d that there were two'sets of books becoming avaiD able in the local library. The first set was of considerable intertest to women and it is understood that these wer,e on display at the flower show yesterday. The other set is in connection with athletics and should prove invaluable to local sportsmen. The latter collection will be available as from Monday next:
