PETONE TEAMS MEET OTAKI
(Contributed Three teams from Petone travelled to Otaki at the weekend to play Otaki "Aces," and spent an enjoyable day. The first game, Petone Colts v. Otaki Colts, result- . ed in a draw 8—8. This was a very even game" and both sides gave a good exhibition of the game. Petone got away to a good start and had a good lead on Otaki but over the final part of the game Otaki was settling down and evened up the score. The women's game saw an easy win for Otaki "Aces" 20—3, only half the game being played; the Otaki girls made the most of Petone's mistakes and showed a superior knowledge of the finer points of the game. It is the opinion of this writer that selectors of rep. teams should look more for the players who show a sound knowledge of the game, and then consider their batting or fielding ability. Many runs are lost by good batters not knowing the finer
points when runnmg bases, or excellent fielding wasted by hesitation or playing the ball to • the wrong place. This game was a good example, both teams being about equal in batting and fielding ability. The men's game was more equal both sides giving nothing away, Petone being the winners 3 — 1, after a close game. It is hoped to have return games with these teams the first weekend in March.
