Last of Yachts Finish Tasman Race
AUCKLAND, Fcb. 16. The two rcinaining entrants iu the Tasman vacht race, erossed the linishing line at Auckland today, the Tauranga kete ti Seaward at 1.35 p.m. and the Wellington seliooner Te Hongi at 6.55 p.m. Uonlrary to some reports lieither. of the yachts liad used their engines at any stage. The Trans-Tasman Cup, the trophy for winning, a yaclit lniniature and cash prize of £100, were prcsented tonight to the crew of the Peer Gynt, kt a ceremony at the- Royal Akarana Yaclit Club. The tropliy presented by the Royal Priuee Alfred Yaeht Club, SydBey for the first boat to cross the finishing line, also went to the Peer Hynt. The Walker and Hall trophy for the •first New Zealand boat to cross the linishing line, was presented to the Auckland yacht Ghost. The actnal times for the, crossing were: — Peer Gynt, 14 days 5 hours 9 minutes S^seconds; Ghost 15 days 9hrs 56mins 20secs; Seaward, 17 days 23hrs 46mins 30secs; Te Hongi, IS days 4hrs Smins. 20secs. A Dunedin Sea Seout, Peter Allan, was a memDer of the^crejw of the Te Hongi. He 'had been attending the recent Scout Jamboree in Melbourne and was wanting to get. back to New Zealand. Wlien he read in a newspaxier tha^ the skipper, Mr. J. Markwalder, was wanting additional crew, he got in touch with hiin and was takou on.
