Receivcd Wednesday, 11.10 p.m. WASHLNOTON, Feb. 15. The fact that Oovernment scientists were working on a "sjiace ship ' ' which would liasli through the stratosphere at nearly 10,000 rniles an hour, was disclosed in a chart issued by the Curtiss Wright Uorporation, veteran builclers of aei-oplanes. The chart shows that secret Covernment research was heing conducted on this satellite and a 3000 to 4000 miles an hour rocket plane and guided ramjet missile with a s])eed abovc 2000 miles an liour. No other details are given in the chart.
The Secretary of Defence, Mr. Forrestal, in his recent annual report, said in a cryptic sentence that all the arined services were Working on research problems relating to an "earth satellite vehicle programme." Some scientists believe that the nation which first ereates an outer' spaee platforrn for guiding or launching atomie roekets, will dominate the earth. Sucli a military direetion post could control longrange roekets, dropping them anywhere on earth and in peace time it could he used for navigation and as a reflector for radio, television and radar waves. The satellite proliablv would he auto matie and e.rewless at the start hut later it rnight lie possihle to send erews haek and forth from Earth 1:o the space ship.
