Shannon School Committee
The February meeting of the Shannon "School Committee was held at the school last Monday evening when Mr. A. E. Jeffrey (chairman) presided over Messrs. L. J. Bowler (secretary), and Messrs. F. J. Lucinsky, E. H. Barber, S. J. Free, F. E. Bradey, R. E. Vinsen and Mesdames W. Easton and C. Stern. As school did1 not recommence until the beginning.,of February, there was little routine business to be conducted. In his report for December and January, the headmaster, Mr. F. O. Burtt, stated that the school closed for vacation on Friday, December 17, with a roll of 306 pupils. Of the 21 pupils who passed out of Form II, all but one oroceededl to post-primary education. Miss J. Wharrie has been ap~ pointed to the teaching staff for the current year, while Miss N. Williams is teaching in the infant department pending the arrival of the recently appointed infant mistress. Mr. N. Gubb, instructor in physical education, spent a day at the school during the week in order to begin a "learn to swim" campaign in the school. Every endeavour will be made during this month to teach all the pupils in the standard classes to swim at least the width of the baths. At the present time the work of sealing the asphalt section of the school grounds is being und'ertaken. General work has been carried out on the gardicns anid grounds.
