Ratepayers' Association Matters

On several occasions over the holiday period and the past month the committee of the Levin Ratepayers' Association has met to deal with rputine and other matters. Cprrespondence from the Levin jBorough Couneil, tne Levip.;Schpol Committee, the Bo'st and Telegraph Department and other ratepayers' associations have been receive'd, while many matters have been left over until the general meeting this month. Recently representatives of the Shannon Ratepayers; Association, including the Mayor, Mr. D. A, Fitzgerald, and Cr. R. S. Downes, met the executive of the Levin association. The visitors were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. F. Croot, of Queen gtreet East. After the past president had given a full outline

:of the various rating systems and traced 'the gradual development and history of towns, he discusse'd the problems with which local bodies and ratepayers generally were ; confronted. He pointed out the | inadvisability of any premature action on such major matters until they were fully understood, touching on the problem of deciding ihe most opportune time for effecting any change. Light refreshments were serve'd and the delegation wifchdrew, openly expressing the opinion that the visit had been worthwhile insofar that a broad discussion dealing with all k-nown aspects of rafcing systems had been dealt with. Mr. Fitzgerald personally thanked the local association for the great help it had given an-d the hospitality it had proffered. He expressed the hope that the Levin association would visit Shannon at an early date. Mr. Dpwnes endorsed these remarks, adding that a most profitubje evening had been spent. HPme and away visits are to be expecte'd from all other known ratepayers' associations within a specified ' area and haying any degree of eommunual interest.
