All Ready For Spectacular Pipe Band Contest

Tuesday night's meeting of the Levin Contest Commit'tee ma'de final arrangements for the Welj lington-Hawke's Bay Pipe pand Cemre's annual contest, to be:iheld lin Levin on Saturday next. PreI sided over by the chief of the Horowheua Scottish Society, Mr. -J. R. iMacfarlane, the meeting was a jfully representative one, and all 1 organisations reported progress in I their spheres of activities. . | Represented by the president, Mr. N. M. Thornley, secretary, Mr. G. Sorenson, and other members of the band, opportunity was taken by Mr. Macfarlane to pay tribute to the excellent work done iby members of the Levin Junior Chamber of Commerce in providing ,£50 worth of advertisements for the souvenir programme, thus making possible a publication worthy of the event, while their work in taking over the publidity for the contest had hblped to' lighten the work of the secfetary. Before the meeting closed, Mf\ Thornley thanked the president fOr his remarks and said that as a national body the Junior Chamber was only too happy to render what assistance it could. It appreeiated the opportunity of helping the Scottish Society and, if anything further was required, they would be only too happy to oblige; i Massed Bands' Street March It was decided that a massed bands' street march to the domairi wbuld be held, the bands marching in formation from the bandroohi at 12.30 p.m. through the town to the domain. During the interval between the quickstep and drum-major^' disP^y the Caledonian marching team will give a display, members of the team also acting as standard bearers in the street march contest at 10.30 a.m. i The secretary, Mr. A. L. Dobson, reported that the Gisborne band would arrive at '6 p.m. and arrangements had been made for them to have tea and then report to the bandroom to meet at 8 p.m. the citizens who are billeting them. The ladies' committee, under the capable direction of Mrs. J. Perigo, also reported that arrangements were complete for the providing of lunch and tea, all bands having these two meals at the Regent Hall on the Saturday.
