McGill Was Proud of His Shooting
AUCKLAND, Feb. 7. The funeral of Richard Angus McGill took place privately today. It was attended by his parents who reside in Auckland and also several relatives and friends. There were flve cars and several wreaths rested on the funeral coach. The Rev. C.- L. French conduct ed short services at the undertaker's chapel, Parnell, and at the Waikumete j cemetery. The inscription on the | casket read: "Richard Angus McGill, aged 19 years. " Of the eix pallbearers, three were -constables, two oi whom took part in the Whakatane seareh, while the other had been on duty guarding the kome of the parents. A diary kept by McGill, whose body was discovered in an orchard near j Whakatane on Saturday, was found b> ' the police when they searched his room after the shooting of Traffic Inspecto; ( J. Ivehoe on Monday night. The diary 1 contained entries rnade a few days before the murder, in which the writer re ferred to the results of his shooting practice. After giving the number oi "bull's eyes" he had scored, McGill wrote: "This will come in handy some ! day. ' ' In another entry he mentioned | he had been practising shooting fron. the hip.
