DARGAVILLE, Feb. 7. A radiq was compietely destroyed and blown into fragments wken an aerial at one of the Waipqqa State Forest lookouts was striick by lightning during an electrical storm and torrential rain, which appeared to eentre rpund the forest yesterday. In one hour — between 11.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m.-— just on three inches or rairfell, causing the lower reaches of the Waipoua River to rise. Several ^maU slips oeeurred on the forest roads, fcpit no complete blockages developed. A party of American scientists attending the Pacific Confi' erpnce in Auckland, who. were making a visif tp the fprest, had te abanden their inspeetien. The fall in Dargaville for the 24 hours ended at 9 a.m. today was 3.42 inches, which brings the montli's fall well above the February average. No damage was reported, although the heavy rain will have a timely holding effect on production, which dwindles at this time of the season.
