The Levin Borough Council's problem regarding the - supply of , earthenware pipes for its sewerage .scheme appears to be solved. At [last month 's meeting the engineering firm employed by the council reported that pipes in any quani tity could not be obtained in the North Island and bringlng them from the South Island would be a very costly project owing to heavy transport charges, possibly involving an additional £40,000. ! . Seeking to find a solution to this problem, the Mayor, Mr. H. B. Burdekin, made a personal call on. the Minister of Works, Mr. R. Semple, and at last night's meetdng of the council he stated that as (the result of his negotiations with • the Minister, an assurance- -had been given by Mr. Semple that Levin, was to receive a priority on pipes available in the North Island. He had found out that pipes were to be manufactured by a new firm as near as Plimmerton. The pipes, as secured, would be stored in Levin until needed. The engineering firm's estimate of the cost of the complete scheme was received last night and amounted to £102,000, and in ordqr to expedite the whole proceedings it was decided last night to make application to the Loans Board fon authority to raise this amount. *
