Sports Areas Allotted At Playford Park
When the Levin Borough Council's plans for Playford Park in Bartholomew Road materiahse, this town will undoubtedly have one of the most mo'dern recreation areas and motor camps in ihe Dominion. A short distance from the centre of the town, the new Playford Park will provide all the facilities necessary for the recreation of citizens and the comfort of the matoring.public. I A total of 19 acres of the park has been set aside by the council ior |use by the various sporting bodies. The balance of the area available will be taken up with paths and other such facilities. | The following were the recorrtmendations of the Playford Park Committee, which were adopte'd by the council last night, in regard to the splitting up of the are-a : — Motor camp, five acres; footbaT and cricket grounds, 1Q acres; nativee flora section and fernery, , half an acre; scouts and miniature rifle club, quarter of an acre; children's play area, half an acre; tennis courts, one acre; bowling green, half an acre; miniature golf course, 'quarter of an acre; swimming p:oI, quarter of an acre; gardens, erc , three quarters of an acre. Competitive designs incorporating all t'hese features will be invited by the council and a nrize awarded the best lay-out. The council has already received an , offer from Dr. S. J. Thompson of £5 5s towards a prize for such a cornI petition. | Regarding the prize money for the competitive designs, the council decided to subsidise Dr. Thompson's donation of> £5 5s by contributing 'a further £5 5s, tlius I making a first prize .of £10 10s. The i council will also offer a second prize of £5 5s, and will advertise the competition in daily newspapers in the Wellington province 'and also a gardening periodical.
