Scots Will Be En Fete Next Saturday
With the skirl of the pipes, the rolling of the drums and the swirl of the kilts, Levin will be treate'd to a sight never witnessed before, when: no less than eleven pipe bands take .charge of the town on Saturday next. Not only will the bandsmen be in their kilts, but it is safe to say that.every Scot in the district will don the National costume and be dressed for the occasion to welcome the clans as they arrive in the town. Apart from the .atitraotive ta^taps- ,tp. be. S.c.efi apd the precision marching and melodious piping. Scots who perhaps have not met for years will meet as the contest will attract visitors from far and wide. Althougn thousands flock to see either the pipe or brass bands. perf orm- their .. quickstep, the pipe bands have an added attraction with ;.the drum-majors' display. The' evolutions which drtim-majors lea-d their bands through have to be seen to be believed. Just as spectacular is the staff flourishing. Bands are coming from a wide area .and they are as follows: — Manawatu Scottish, City of Wellington, Ruahine Highland, Wanganui Highland, Gisborne, Horowhenua, Hutt Valley, Port Ahuriri, Caledonian, Pipes and Drums4 1st Wellington Regiment, Wairarapa Caledonian and Wellington Watersiders.
