Heat Wave Hits Canterbury
CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 6. Today was the hottest day of summer in Christchurch, a maximum of 91 degrees being reached at 11.30 a.m. L'here was a cooling sea bfeeze in the afternoon but the temperature was still 83 degrees at 5 o'clock. The heat today. se't oif a number ofautomatic fire alari'ns and the brigade iiad one of its busiest days for years. Three of the false alarms were to the Supreme Court. February has stafted in Christchurch with a niiuor heat wave. The coolest day last week was "Thursday when the inaxximuin was 73.8 degrees. After a fairly.hot day on Friday (85.1 degrees; Saturday was warmer. The temperatufe was about 80 degrees for most of the day but rose steadily during the afternoon to a maximum of 87.4 degrees at 5.30 p.m. The heat has -been aceoinp.anied by' bright 'sunshine. There has been uo rain.
