EXCITING ATHLETICS
High Standard of Racing At Levin Sports . The Levin Combined Amateur Athietic and Cycling Cxub's annual open sports pieeting, held at the Levin Park Domain on Saturday evening, was, as' pre'dicted, one of the outstanding postwar fixtures. Held under ideal conaitions and with events being run off to sehedule, t'he public were treated to a fast-m.oving programme of some 56 races. The standard of competition, with many outside comperti-t Gors taldng part, could be Tegarded as very good. The many close finishes witnessed during the evening must have been most gratifying to the handicapper, Mr. Gordon Milroy, and this ^wai reflected in the maijner in which' excitement ran high throughoufc tne long list of events. The cycling events ih particular were weil received and, with large fields participating, it was fortunate that minor acci'dents occurred on only two occasions. Prior to the opening of the meeting the Levin Municipal Band was in attendance and provided popular numbers, which were appreciated by the early arrivals. The gate takings resulted in the splendid return of £77, which must constitute a record for the club.
