Shannon Win Hunter Shield Athletic Contest
Athletics and cycling in Shannon received a further fillip on Tuesday evening, when the third contest for the Hunter Shield between the Foxton, Levin, Otaki and Shannon Amateur Athletic and Cycling Clubs was held at the Shannon Recreation Ground. In spite of the fact that a strong wind ma'de conditions somewhat trying, a record crowd turned out to witness a good programme of events. The new banked clay cycling track was officially in use for the first time and although it has not yet had time to settle down completely, the times recorde'd were good and the track was well spoken of by the visiting cyclists. There were good fields and keen contests in the athletic events and .the placings were well distrihuted between the four clubs. In the Hunter Shield contest, the Shannon club ran out the winners with 52 points, Levin and Qtaki were secon'd (equal) with 44 points each and Foxton scored 12 points. Both Foxton and Levin cycling teams were weakened by the absence of some of their stronger riders. 1 Results, with club representafion shown thus?
