AUCKLAND, Feb. 4. Taking advant'age of the faet that the Mayor, Mr. J. A. C. Allum, and Mrs. Allnm were attending the civic reception to Mr. Anthony Eden in the Town Hall, burglars entered his home at Herne Bay on ThuYsday night. Thev stole £17, one sovereigu which was a keepsalce and a wristlet watch. Mr. and Mrs. Allum left their home before 7.30 p.m. and did not return until about 10.30 p.m. They found several of the rooms in fdisorder, and fividence of a hu'rried seareh was given by the way in which drawers had been pulled out and the contents scattered. Mr. Allum said the burglary was committed on one of the few occasions on which his house had been left empty. The Allums were robbed of about £300 worth of jewellery in similar cireumstances on the night of Jupe 19, 1946. On that occaeion tliey were nttending a civic re> iption in the Town Hall to the Governor-General, Sir Bernard Freyberg, V.C., In addition to the jewels, which were neyer recovered, about £.15 was taken.
