District Successes At Show In Fielding
The traditional high standard of the liye stock ip the Manawatu district was well n^aintained in the exhibits brought forward for thfe 43rd annual show of the Feilding A. and P. Association, which took place this week. The judges of the sheep in partieular found their expectations fully rearised in the high quality offering, and visitors found much to dwe.l upon in eonsidering .the stock which. plays such a vastly irnportant role in sustaining the national economy,. The show was offlcially opened on Wednesday by the Canadian High Commissioner in New Zealand, Mr. A. Rive. Stock from the-' Horowhenua district was prominent in the lisfc of awards ahd given below is a lis.t of som§ of the successful local exhibitors. Mr. G. W. Munford, of Shannon, Iwon the championship for a Southdown ewe, over 21 months and under 33 months, -and took the reserve championship and first prize in the section for ewes, 33 months and over. He annexed second prize for a ewe. lamb in wool. In the Friesi.an cattle section, awards were won as follows: — Mr. F. O. Malcolm (Levin), two seconds, two thiids, one very highly commended and one commended; 'Mr. B. S. Kyle (Otaki) one first, two tnird's and two eommendeds. Ayrshire cattle: A. and M. Scott •i (Levin), junior champion heifer, . four, firsts, one second and one ithird; Mr. C. E. C. Webb (Levin), four thirds. Spegial dairy cattle. classes : A. and M. Scott, junior champion ; heifer and one first; Mr. F. O. Malico'm, one third. Boys' and girls' calf club classes: Bruce Malcolm, one second and one h.c.
