Anaexson, and also tnree deaths, including one Maori, whiie two mairiage notices were issued. .Cyclists For Championships Two Otaki cyclists, Des. Smith and Colin Wilton, are flying to Christchurch to compete at the New Zealand championships * on Saturday. They have been selected to take pait in the team to represent WeLington. Schoolboy's Early Fall The first "casualty" for 1949 at the Otaki State School came on Wednesday. Only his second day at school, a small boy, evidendy of the adventuresome type, climbed on to a low roof, frcm which he fell, injuring his nose and forehead. Medical attention was necessary and he is spending the remainder of the week in bed. Businessmen Visit Sanatorium Members of the Otaki Commercial Association visited the Sanatorium on "Wednesday, when improvements being effected were explained by the medical superintendent. Views regarding the possibiiity of the erection of the propo'sed new sanatorium were submitted, and the mat.er is to be given further consrderation at an eariy date.
Compiimentary Function Mrs. A. Furse, of Otaki Railway, igave a card party on Saturday in jaid of the Textile Queen. Priz.s jwere annexed by Mesdames Grififin and Flyger, and Messrs. Larsen l and Bai ey. A very dainty supper j was served by the hostess and competitions were won by Mrs. Burgess, Mr. Butt and Sophie Gray. Thanks were accorded to Messrs. Harcld Taylor, F. Gardner and H. Wy.ie for giftS, and-to thcse who he ped j to hiake the evening such a suclcees. Mrs. Furse gave the sum ot I £5 to the Textile Queen Commit'tee. ■' In Han^y Celebration Intimate friends and relatives gathered at the home of Mr. and .Mrs. C. Peacock, Russell Terrace, i Wellington, last Saturday to celeI brate the engagement .of their only daughter Shir ey,'to Robert George, > son of Mr. A. J. Maberly:, Waerenga |Road, Otaki. The guest ofl.honour looked charming in a frock of delphinium blue spotted muslin, with matching shoulder spray ' of shaded ■ delphiniums and sweet peas. After the usual toasts had been honoured', refreshments were partaken of and a happy and enjoyable evening was spent .
