A jury in the Supreme Oourt retufcbed a verdict of guilty after a 1 retirement of nearly two hours, in the case of Peggy Ma&ka, a Maori domestic, aged 24, who was charged ( with the murder Of her foster child, the 18 months' half-caste Lee Kim Ahipene, at Te Ore Ore, near Masterton, on November 10, 1948. Ml\ Justic Fair sentenged Maaka to life imprisonment with hard labour. A rider added by the jury stated: "We view With alarm the conditions allowed to exist by the authorities in allowing Chinese and Maoris to cohabit to the detriment of the morals of both races. ' '
