Stone Fruits In Keen Demand
.Messrs. Townsend and Paul, Ltd., fruit and produce -merchants, Wellington, report that during^the past week most varieties of stone fruits have been in keen enquiry, with values proving most satisfactory. There has been a dehnite increase on earlier saies and prospects app^ar to be bright. Glasshouse and' outside tomatoes over the past week have been in heavy supply, with values easier. These again appear to be firming, espe.cially for firm ripe tomatoes. Apricots, grapes, black currants and raspberries are keenly sought after. Vegetables are realising good retuin-5, particu'arly green peas, which are in short supply, and also cabbage,- carro.ts and choice 'lettuce. Light er yardings of poultry . have increased the demand and most prime birds are in strong- demand. Last week's quotations are: — Fruit: Peaches, choice, 8s to 13s; others, 6s to 8s; plums, choice, 8s to 13s 3d; others, 5s to 7s 6d; nectarines, 7s to 10s; apricots, 12s to 21s 6d i-case; tomatoes, glasshouse, red, 10d! to ls 2d; coloured, 8d to ls; outside, red, 6M to ls; coloured, 6d to 8d; raspberries, 2S to 2s 3d; grapes, 2s 9d to 3s 9d lb.; blackcurrants (Greytown), 12s to 16s box. Flowers: Asters, 15s to 25s; carnations, 16S to 20s gross; gladioli, 4s to 6s per dozen; gypsophila, 9d to ls 6d bunch. Vegetab'es: Beans, butter, 3'd to 6d; runners, 3d to 8d; stringless, 3d to 8d; peas, 4d to 9d lb.; beetroot, "4s to 9s; marrows, 3S to 6s; rhubarb, 3s to 6s; silverbeet, 2s 6d to 4s 6d; white turnips, 6s case; cabbage, 9s to 12s; cauliflower, 10s to 16s; carrots, 15s to 24s; cucumbers, 12s to 14$; pumpkins, 10s to 16s; parsnips, 30s to 36s; swedes, 20s to 25s sack; lettuce, fcest, 16s; others, 5s to 10s; leeks, ls; mint, 6d to 8d; parsley, 6d to 10'd; Chinese cabbage, 4d to 9d bunch; sweet corn, 16s bag; onions, 18s to 20s; potatoes, 16s 6d to 18s; others, 12s to 16s cwt.
