School And College Begin New Year
Fresh from , a long holiday, the children of Levin were back at school again today to begin another year. The roll numbers. at the Primary School and Horowhenua College are not yet available. j Recommencing his duties as headmaster of the Primary School , after a nine months' absence on jduty with the Wel'ington EducaItion Board's inspectors, Mr. H. F. |McClune took over this morning from the acting headmaster, Mr. P. D. Chapman. Two teachers were absent owing to illness. They are Miss S. B. Phillipps, who is beingreplaced meanwhiie by Mrs. A. G. j Black, and Miss J. Lineker, whose place is being taken by Mr. J. A Goodwin. During the holidays, extensions ' have been made to tne dbntal clinic and the building painted. The complete school building is still in the proceSs of being painted and the part which has so far received attention is looking very attractive. A new system- of classifying classes, which of necessity have had to be divided was announced by Mr. McClune this morning. He said tnat in the past these classes, which have been too large for one f teacher, had been diyide'd and classified as A and B. This hadled many parents to the belief tnat because their child was in the B class he wa-s more backward than those in the A class.. This, of course, was not the case, but to avoid future misunderstanding such classes woul'd take the initia's of the teacher in c&arge — in other words, Form II C for Mr. Chapman's class, or Form II W for Mr. C. E. Wiseley's class.
