Ratepayers' Meeting
A meeting of the Shannon' Ratepayers' ASsociation was held in Laurvig's Hall recently. Mr. R. Vinsen presided over 27 members. A letter'was received from the Levin. Ratepayers' Association asking the association to visit Levin for a meeting to be arranged with a view to an exchange of views and' ideas. It was decided that en'deavours be ma'de to arrange the" meeting as soon as possible in 'view of the rating poll on February 12, as Levin has rating under. the unimproved system and the advantages and disadvantages could b.e sought first hand from a borough that was experiencing the system that ratepayers in Shannon were being asked to approve. . In enlarging upon a reply from the Shannon Borough Council regarding water supply improvements, the Msfcror, Mr. D. Fitzgerald, stated that the. proposed relaying of Olapham and Ballance Streets with four-inch mains would fit in with any scheme that could ' be brought in at a later date. A general discussion took place on the rating poll, the general opinion indicating that the issue should be "left to the electors. . Mr. R. Hook said it had been brought to his notice that reports of. council meetings had, been condense'd for publication .in the local paper and , asked. ).f this was correct. Mr. L.
