AUCKLAND, Jan. 26. The highest price""for many years was paid for a calf at the Westfield fat stock market today. An outstanding heavy prime runner sold for. £19 17s : 6d. There was an increased yarding of calves and a ready demand duriug the early part of the sale. However, priees eased considerably later. : Beef was penned in average nnmbers and although the demand was steaily, priees were slightly easier. Quotations were Is per 100 lbs. lower tlian last ; week. . Cheep eame forward in less than average numbers and with a steady inquixy, priees were firm. An average ; number of lambs sold readily at lirm - values. ■ All classes of pigs sold well at late quotations. Stores were in good demand. Cattle. Extra choice ox to £3 4s per 100 lbs,, choice and prime £3 to £3 3s, ordinary £2 14s to £2 19s. Extra prime young cow and heifer to £2 18s per 100 lbs., choice and prime £2 13s to £2 17s, ordinary cow beef £2 8s to £2 12s.
