Mr. W. J, Guinan, sanitary inspector, reported to the council that for the October-December quarter two cases of polio. had been 'reported, 2 visits had been made by ! him " and three requisitions had I been served. Eight samples of milk jhad been taken and thirteen new septic tank installations_ had been 'tested and approved. Six inspections had been made at the water head-works, and also at the new drainage work at the Sanatorium and the Maternity Home. Other routine inspections showed that lconditions generally were satisfac- ! tory. i Street Day Allocations The secretary of the Otaki Commercial Association, Mr. N. B. ! Anderson, advised the council by letter that after a very full discussion on street days, the associa- ; rion recommended • the council to .grant permifcs for street days for genuins charitable purposes only, jind asked for the council's favourmble consideration of the recom'mendation. The discussion which ensued re- ■ vealed the council's desire _to, consider applications as and when they were received, and deal wi'th them according to merit. It was rgreed that the word charitable iplaced a restriction on efforts : which might be organised for the Ibeneiit of the whole community, |and it was further agreed that I applications which favoured sectional interestS should possibly be restricted. It was decided to ask the association to define what the word charitable intended to cover, as it was desired to do what was fair. '
