Among the foriner champions defeated today "were Bremner (Carlton), double winner m 1924 and 1929; Franks (Balmoral) 1939 champion; Spearman (Sydenham) 1944 title holder; Engebretsen (Heretaunga), winiier in 1945; and White (Runanga), champion in 1940. The weather and playing conditions were so near perfect as could be expeete'd with ^bright sunshine and very little wind, and all three greens in first-elass playing condition. Four pairs matehes deferred from last Saturday were played and proved a triumph for the Inglewood player, W. Spurdle. He had three games for three wins, including a convincing win over the unbeaten singles player J. Pirret, junior (Tuakau) by 21 — 16.
