Personal Mr. anid Mrs. J. MacKay and family are at'present on holidaydn the South Island. Miss Pycroff, a former teacher at the Shannon School, is at present holidaying in Shannon renewing acquaintances. Messrs. B. Harris and D. Fuller have been selected for the cricket team to represent Horowhenua against Southern Hawke's Bay at Dannevirke on January 24. i Uiiimproved Rating Proposal Speaking at a me^ting 'of the Shannon Borough Council on Tuesday evening, the Mayor (Mr. D. A. Fitzgerald) reported that he had been handed a petition from the ratepayers of Shannon asking for a poll to be taken on the unimproved rating proposal. He stated that public notice had been given and that February 12 was the date set down for the day of the poll. ■ Mr. J. T. Bovis was appointed returning Qfficer for the poll.
