Woman's Allegations About Fire Brigade
AUCKLAND, Jan. 19. A young "woinan elaims that wlien an attempt to get tlirdugh by phone was uiisuccessl'ul, she travelled in a taxi to the Auckland Fire Brigade headquarters early on Haturday morning, to report that a fire had broken out in the Old Grammar School, and was rebuifed by a member of the brigade. Iler allegation that he en leavc red to give , the alarm an hour before the brigade arrived at the fire, is being investigated by deteetives. Slie is Miss Deidi'e Aldrige, who is employed at the Bucroft private hotel about 100 yards from the scene of the fire. Miss Aldrige says she attended an identification parade at the fire station on Monday night but not having taken nmch notice of the two men she saw there on Saturday morning, she was uhable to identify theni. The Metropolitan Fire Board Superintendent, Mr. W. L. Wilson, told an interviewer today that the two men who were on. duty on Saturday morning, denied that anvone called and reported the, fire. Knowing liis men as he did, he could not conceive that a'ny would not uet upon reeeiving a report of a fire. Ile could not say more until the inquiry was completed.
