Australia May Reduce Taxation
CANBERRA, Jan. 17. Federal Ministers believe that the Prime Minister, Mr. Chiftey, will soon ainnaunce taxation reduc■tions* of £30 millron yearly, beginning next financial year. >- - - Mr. Chifley, who will return tomorrow from a holiday in Tasmania, may make a preliminary 'report to thd Cabinet on January 1 27. In the six months ended December 31, the Government coPected £187,395,000 from all kinds of taxatloii. This was over £8,000,000 more ,than the Government coPected in ; the last six months of 1947, when ' direct and indirect taxes were 3 per cent. to 33.3 per cent. higher.
