CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 17.' For the preparation oi standard -liriproteetion by-larvs for New Zealand. Mr. Victor R. J. Hean, architect with .the Ministrv of Works in Christchurch. I has been selected as advisory archite-» j by the Standards Institute. Mr. Hear. 1 has been seconded from the Ministrv of Works and will leave Christchurch 011 Wednesday for Wellington where he will be stationed for several months. Both Mr. Hean and Mr. P. ('. Cornisn (district architect) received the commendation of senior eounsel . for the Crown (Mr. G. G. G. Wat'son) for their work as technical advisers to the Crown in the inquiry into Ballantyno's ti ro, in the preparation of plans, tnodels an-l expert evidence before the commission. After l>eing on the arehiteetural statf of the Christchurch City Council, Mr. Hean specialised in hospital planning artd was architect to the I'alnierston North Hospital Board for five years. He was also in the Government Architect 's office in Wellington before returing to Christchurch. He has given many leetures on fire proteetion, aero drome planning and town planning. He is a son' of Mr. B. Hean who is past president of both the United and Can terbury Fire Brigades' Association and a former eaptain of the Addington Railway Fire Brigade.
