Outstanding Juvenile Entertainers

The concert held at the .Civic Theatre on Sunday night in aid of the Maorx Queen was a marked success. The audience was- ;in a : parti'cularly . generous mood and- each item : was. roundly "applauded,! all of the, artists. being recalled„ ■ several of them. many -times. 1 It is a long time since performers met with the recepAon accorded the Murray family. Two school girls in gym. f rocks and two natural unassuming school boys, they seem to be interested in all that goes on around them, while at ihe same time they are giving of their best, which, measured by the applause following each number is a very good best. They have an amazing repertoire, are marke'dly versatile and can be said to have won the hearts of their Otaki listeners. They have appeared three times in twelve nights, yet the applause accorded them on Sunday - night was tremendous, an'd they were recalled time and again. Their reappearance in the second half' was the occasion for ' a renewe'd outb'ursi, and the audience showed its appreciation of their efforts by showering them with coins. A warning from the compere-, whose ready wit' helped to keep proceedings going merrily, that ' "it was dangerous to throw pennies, but quite alright to throw halfcrowns," was apparently to good effect, as it was announced that the sum of £2 14s had been "coined" in this manner.

First to appear was the Maori Junior Choir in action songs. They were followed by "Bobby" Hakaraia, who pleased with a vocal number, and had to respond' to an encore, as did the next artists, the Millard Sisters, who were applauded for their tap-dancing. The Murray Sisters sang popular numbers and they were followed by Mr. H. Meads with -some clever blrd imitations. Next to appear were the Murray Brothers, with two banjos. They were followed by Miss A. Roiri, who sang very pleasingly. ... v, ,, The second half op"eried with further action songs by they Junior 'Choir,. after !;which ^>bby Hakaraia "sang "Sonny Boy."
