Carnival Activities

It is understood that the majority of the sideshows that have been operating over the past month, first at Tasman Beach and for the past week near the Otaki fire station, are to l§ave at the end of the present week. They appear to have been in popular deman'd and some of them have done' business up to a late hour. ; The numerous functions be.ng arranged for the next . ten days seem to point to an even buSier time ahead for tne various Queen committees. In addition to many private functions held practically every night, the first of the adverjtised efforts is to be a barn dance ! at Manakau on Saturday, organjised by the Otaki-Te Horo Young jFarmers' Club in aid of the iFarmers' Queen. j An event that many will be i looking f orward to wiil be the concert in the Civic Tneatre ' on Sunday night. This will mark the first appearance locally of the jHorowhenua juvenile concert iparty, with visiting artists of note !in support. Included among the [latter will be Mrs. G. Hesp, a well-known Levin vocalist, and Ithe Millard sisters, also of Levin', ; a dancing duo. The local Maori concert pkrty has been practising very assiduously and high class numbers cdh" 'be looked for. The Murray family, of Levin, members of which have been very much in favour locally during the talents quest, are also to appear in new numbers. This effort is under the auspices of the Maori Queen Committee.

I Next Wednesday will see the I third night of the talents quest, , in which all queens share, and jFriday of next week will be the j commencement of a weekend of niarked activity. Of special interjest to children should be a gala jday to be held in the Raukawa I meeting ho'use grounds, with • stalls to cater for the requirements of adults. i For Friday night the Textiles Queen Commitiee has arranged a ; grand dance in the Ohau Hall, | when a leading- cfrchestra will pf ol vide the - hiusic.- All other' ' arrangements are reported to be I well in hand, ,free huses being* WQ-' ivided to transport' patrons.
