MeVay (Welling ton) was the highlight of today 's play iix the national tennis chanxpionships. In the other women 's scmi-finals Mrs. E. Anderson (Wellington), ufeseed'ed player, took Miss M. Ker'r (Otago) to the third set before Miss Kerr woa, The nxep's •championship titi e holder, R. S. McKenzie (Wellington) move'ci iixto the final with an easy win over A. S. Burns (Auckland) but the other1 finalist, J. E. Robson (Otago), only beat O. M. Bold (Hutt Yalley) in the; fifth set after having nxatch point held against him in the fourth. A further minor surprise occurred in tlxe semi-finals of the mixed doubles when the champiofis, •McKenzie ana Mrs. McVay, lost a set to Burns and Miss J. Burke (Taranaki). Thoxigli the courts were comparatively well sheltered. from a southerly wind, enough gusts got through to be very troublesome from time to time. The gate takings also suffered a littlcbecause of the overcast and windy conditions and totalled between £70 and £80 — the lowest.
