Lord Beaverbrook Is No Longer A Tory.

Widespread speculation ...in all political pa-rties has been caused by a statenient in the Evening >Standard reportjng, on the authority of Conservative Pai'ty he'adquarters, that Loi'd Beaverbrook is no longer ' subsc-ribing- to the party funds and that he is. "no "longer a Tory. ' ' Lord Beaverbrook has been a member of the party for many years, and took a prominent part in the 1945 General Eleetion. Lafely his various newspapers, including the Evening Rtandard, have had An anti-Oonservative flavour. Discussing the statement with Mr. A. J. Cummings, of the News Chronicle, Lord Beaverbrook said he had promised to give ,£100 to the party funds so long as Bir Arehibald Bouthey was' member for Epsom. He had vvrittten" no more cheques since Sir Arehibald resigned for health reasons in November, 1947. Lord Beaverbrook • said he had not changed his politics, and added that his support of Mr. Churchill and the Conservative Party at the next General Eleetion "will depend on the policy developed by Mr. Churchill and the Conservative Party. If it is an Empire policy, then I am with them. If thev fail (in this) I oppose them."
