Russian Menace As Bad As Buzzbombs
Received Tbursday, 7 p.m. NEW YORK, Jan. 12. The Russian menace was as real to all people, as the Na/.i buzzbombs had been to Britain, said the E.O.A. Administrator, Mr. Paul Hofiman, in a Ispeech at Detroit tonight. Mr. Hoffman said he was eonvinced , Russian* efforts to take over China could be stopped only by concurrent operations on threr f?-onts — economic, political and military. He deplored the fact that Chineso : efforts to defeat communism were confined to military action alone. "The United States is wise in building up militarily as well as economically — if for no other purpose than dissuading jMoscow from any rash nulitar,.1 venture on its own, " he said. " Unless our military strength is such that the Kremlin will find it unwise to start its armies marching, the free nations of Western Europe will be denied the chance of taking the economic and political measures necessary to immun ise their people against the virus of this soealled communism." IMr. Hoffman said Marshall aid pro posed economic, cooperation that would break the barriers that> had divided Europe for eenturies.
