To Celebrate Diamond Wedding
Sixty years of a happy married life will be ce'ebrated on Friday, January 21, when Mr. and Mrs,. W. Moffat, of Tauranga and late qf Oroua Downs. attain their diamond wedding anniversary. It was on January 21, 1889, that Mr. Wiiliam Moffat was married. in St. Andrew's Presbyterian 'Church, Palmerston' North, to Miss Elizabeth 'Stewa-rt Rickard, daughter . of] the late Mr. James and Mrs. Rick-1 ard, of Palmerston North, by the Rev. James Patterson. Mr. Moffat came to New Zealand in 1874 from the Shetland > Islands. HS '"landed af'°N^soh:"and after' spending two years at Karamea and a further two -years at Wellington, travelled to Palmerston North, where he met his wife and was married. After spending about nine years farming at Ashhurst,; the couple moved to- Orbua Downs, where they remained in residence until. some ten years ago, Mr.- Moffat retiring and taking up residence at Tauranga. The couple had ten children, seven of whom are still living. They are Mesdames G. -Brown (Waikanae), C. Moulden (Kati Kati, Bay of Plenty), F. Richardson (Tauranga) and Rene Stratford (Otaki Railway), and. Messrs. Stewart Moffat (Tauranga) and Frank and Marshall Moffat (Oroua Downs). Two other Sons, now deceased, Jack and Lindsay, gained fame in the football world in this district, and as representative players. Lindsay played for the Manawatu representatives against Horowhenua. The tenth child, Mavis, died -when quite young.. Both- Mr. and Mrs. Moffat, who are over 80 years of age, are enjoying good health. .
