Britain Building Over 200 New Tankers
Received Wednesday, 7 p.m. LONDON, Jan. 12. British shipbuilding has at present f;ii its books, orders for' 107 new British oi I tankers aggregating 1,500,000 tons ueadweight and representing, at present ; 1'ices, a value of £01,000,000. In addit ion it has orders for 102 tankers for foreign owners aggregating l,070,0()n ioiis deadweight and worth £04,00(1, ()(K). These tanker orders represent neariv imlf of the total new shipping tonnage now ordered or under construction in British yards. The largest individnat • British order has been placed by the British Tanker Companv, the shipping organisation for the Anglo-lranian Ojl Couqniny. This companv, which last vear took delivery of nine new tankers, has 40 new ships at present building. Wheii these are eompleted, the company's tanker fleet will number 102 vessels. Other large orders have come. from the Shell group wliich lias already int-i'cased its * tanker fleet*: by 30 por cent. compared with pre-war.
