After the -final two rounds of seetion play, all two-lifors moved to the Carlton green and tlie remaining oue-lifers were shifted to niue difi'erent city greens. The fast conditions generally were to Ihe liking of the Aucklanders and in parlieular to tlie three wlio proved tlie outstauding bowlers of the day, these lieiug Skoglund, Doiialdson and Perret. Skoglund had two close and exciting games, tlie lirst in his final seetion when he wou II — 13 after lying 12 — all on the 19th end, and the second in his first post-section game when he met another. expert driver in W. P. O 'Neill, of Auck-. land. O'Neili had tlie better of play; from tlie ninth to tlie 16th ends and, used his very fast drive to good advan-| tage on several occasions but at the end' it was drawing rather tlian driving which counted and 'Skoglund had the measure of O'Neili in this. He won '20—19. Donaldson and Perret were both in excellent form and won tlieir second round post-section games by liuge scores, Perret by 25 to- 5 on the 17th end and Donaldson by 31 to 4 after only 16 ends. Donaldson, ineidentally, is playing with a set of bowls wliicli was used by the uational singles eliaiupion' of 1915 and 1916, the late J. S. Murtin. Taylor was receutly defeated iu the Carlton Club championship by M. Connew but today he had the better of tlie game and used his great drawing powers to best advantage. * Franks, one of the youngest players in thef.ifield, had a close game for a timeJ in the seventh round with A. R. Paterson, Kaponga, but won comfortably by dint of particularly good drawing. An unexpected failure was that of O. H. Svmons, of Otaki Eailway, who
