Housing In Shannon
There is every possibilityo that housing construction willjboom in ; Shannon this year. Apart from the Isix or eight dwellings0 under con- ! struction in the borough at the jpresent time, several more are predicted. ' * Over the recent holidavs at least three people were in Shannon an'd told a "Chronicle" representative that they were "window shopping" for a building site. One mentioned that he hoped to retire in a small town or at a beach, but in view of the high prices of beach sections he was looking round the Levin, Shannon and Foxton boroughs for a possible site. When told that there was to be a re-valhation of the borough shortiy (this • work' cominenced yesterday), and a possible change in the rating system, all agreed that it would be better to hold off any business deals for a short time. Empty houses are stLI eagerly enquired after, not only by local people but by pbople wishing to come to Shannon to live. A building programme of 56 houses would not go amiss in the twn.
