Good Honey Crop The honey crop in Hawke's Bay this season is expected to be better in quality and quantity than last year. This is attributed to the recent heavy r'ains. Motor-cyclist Injured „A Wanganui mdtor-cyolist; D. H. Groves, aged 19, received injuries to a foot when he was involved in a collision with a car at the intersection of Botanical Road and Foxton Line at 6.20 p.m. yesterday. The car was driven by Miss M. B'ush, of 20 Manuka Street, Palmerston North. After treatment at the Palmerston North Hospital, Groves was. able to procee& home. fearred From Beaches The Hutt Oounty Council has barred the riding of horses or the driving of motor-cars or motorcycles on beaches uhder its control. . The praetice of swrmming horses from the. beaches is also forbidden. An exception is where a person uses ! the beach as a means of access to | his property. The warning was aimed particularly at the Raumati and . Paraparaumu Beach areas, where children could be endangered, the county clerk (Mr. H. R. Robinson) explained this week. Baek Country Reticulation Faced with the, long delays i caused by the labour shortage, settlers of Tuturumuri in South Wai- ■ rarapa have decided that seif-help is the best means of getting their homesteads linked to the power system. Working with the Wairarapa Power Bpard men, they have established what is believed to be a record by completing six miles of power line in five and a half weeks. Traversing steep, hilly country, an average of more than a mile a week was covered in what is understood to be a North Island record. / Slips In Gorge The rail connection from the Manawatu district to Hawke's Bay and the Wairarapa and the Saddle Road was closed, and' the road through the Manawatu Gorge was threatened, as the result of torrential rain which fell on the surrounding district yesterday. The railway was closed by slips which fell near the northern end of a tunnel at the Ashhurst end of the gorge about 5 p.m. It is hoped to have the line cleared today. Many small slips came down in the Gorge, and the overseer and his gang were working throughout last night in an endeavour to keep the road clear of rubble, which was continually falling from the hillsides. Water Supply Plans Surveyors have already received instructions for the preparatory work in laying a water supply for beach resorts north of Paekakariki to Waikanae, the clerk of the Hutt County Council said on Thursday.
