DANNEVIRKE, Jan. 7. * The death has occurred of Mr. George Alfed Maddison, of Otope, Dannevirke, a former well-known resident of Hastings, at the age of 63 years. He had been residing on his farm here for the past two. and a-half years. While a resident of Hastings, Mr. Maddison served several terms as Mayor. He was- elosely identified with all forms of sport and was latterly a member of the New Zealand Rugby Union and one of its delegates to the international rugby conference in England last year. \ He was a member of the Hawke's Bay Education Board for 24 years and served as chairman from 1930 but did not seek re-elec-tion last year on account of f ailing health. During the last war Mr. Maddison was chairman of the No. 1 Armed Forces Appeal Board for Hawke's Bay. He is survived by : yidow, one son and one daughter.
