Fire Escape Towers For Chateau Tongariro
NEW PLYMOUTH, Jan. 5. The erectioxx of two fire escaixe towers at the Chateau Tongariro, is proposed and tenders for worlt are to be called. An ofticial of the Ministry of Works at Hamilton, said today that when the towers vvere eoxnpleted, guests at the Chateau could be assured that the buiiding had been brought into line with all fire safety requirements and that eseape from the buiiding in the event of fire could be made from alJ floors. The towers, wliieh are better described as enciosed fireproof staircases, will be of briek construction. It is hoped they will be ready for use.,by winter. Two staircases in the Chateau at present alford the ouly means oi escape in the event of fire though tliese facilities it is stated, in no way create a fire hazard. The addition of the fire towers is planned oniy to ensure that overy possible means of escape is available in the event of an outbreak. Tlieir eompletion will mean that there will be no part of the buiiding wliere people could be trapped by fire.
